The acetate used in the frames is from Mazzucchelli, an Italian company known for producing the highest quality acetate.

Craftsmanship

Jacques Marie Mage handcrafted in Japan

Jacques Marie Mage eyewear is truly unique because every frame is crafted using a combination of traditional techniques and modern technology. The frames are handmade by skilled artisans in Japan and Italy, who have mastered the art of eyewear production. Over a span of 18 months, nearly 100 artisans contribute their expertise to enrich a 300-step process for crafting each pair of glasses.

Acetate Eyewear Production Process

Step 1: Cutting

Jacques Marie Mage's production process for acetate eyewear involves cutting the acetate sheets into the desired shape of the frame. Their artisans then use a combination of heat and pressure to mold the acetate into the shape of the frame, using specialized machinery.

Step 2: Tumbling

To achieve a sleek and polished finish, Jacques Marie Mage established a crucial step in which the eyewear frame fronts and temples undergo a tumbling process using custom bamboo wood chips within barrels.

Step 3: Injection

The temples are reinforced and stabilized by injecting custom-tooled wirecores into them, ensuring the frame's durability and structural integrity.

Step 4: Mounting

Once the frame has been polished, the artisans attach the temples and hinges to the frame, which are also crafted from premium materials such as titanium or precious metals. Arrow-shaped hinges mount the temple to frame with tension secured pins that ensure optimal calibration.

Step 5: Polishing

After the frame has been shaped, the artisans begin hand-polishing the frame to give it a smooth finish. This involves using different grades of sandpaper to remove any rough edges and create a perfect surface for the final polish and may require as many as 10 additional steps to give the Jacques Marie Mage frame their signature brilliance.

Step 6: Foiling

Using a meticulous hand-machined foiling process, the interior of every frame in the Circa Collection is adorned with gold or silver leaf, seamlessly embedding the metallic color inter the acetate temples.

Step 7: Assuring

Jacques Marie Mage places a high value on quality control, and each frame undergoes a twenty-point measurement test before it is deemed ready for sale. The frames are inspected for imperfections in the acetate, such as bubbles or discoloration, and the hinges are tested to ensure they function smoothly.

Striking Styles in Acetate

Titanium Eyewear Production Process

Step 1: Mold Making

At the onset of the titanium eyewear production process, molds are meticulously crafted using high carbon die steel with an impressive 10-micron tolerance, offering ten times the accuracy of an acetate tool.

Step 2: Pressing

Utilizing powerful Japanese metal presses, frame components undergo forging procedures with pressures reaching up to 350 tons. This controlled force expertly bends and molds the titanium into precise mechanical parts.

Step 3: Welding

With utmost precision, skilled artisans weld sections of the frame in brief, carefully timed bursts lasting only 0.5 seconds. The welding process meticulously regulates pressure, temperature, and electric current. Additionally, smaller frame parts are flawlessly joined through laser welding techniques.

Step 4: Sonic Bath

Parts undergo a thorough cleansing in ultrasonic purified water, ensuring the complete elimination of any oil or grease residue. This meticulous cleaning process guarantees impeccable welding results.

Step 5: Polishing

Each frame receives meticulous hand polishing, undergoing more than five rounds of polishing to achieve a flawless finish. The art of polishing, which takes decades to master, reveals the true beauty of the titanium frame.

Step 6: Stress Test

To ensure optimal tensile strength and endurance, force and elongation techniques are employed to subject the frames to rigorous stress and fatigue testing.

Step 7: Assuring

A comprehensive twenty-point measurement test is conducted, assessing all fit specifications and meticulous detail finishes. This stringent quality control process virtually eliminates the possibility of production flaws, such as scratches or discoloration. Additionally, hinge functionality is thoroughly tested to guarantee smooth operation.
